The Democrats have made a choice. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is their pick for president. He’ll run against President Donald Trump on Election Day, November 3.

Since February, Democrats have been holding state elections, called primaries and caucuses. By mid-April, Biden had won 19 states. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, had won seven. But Sanders dropped out last month, making Biden the last Democrat in the race.

Now that Biden is no longer campaigning against other Democrats, he’s focused on convincing voters to choose him over Trump. In previous elections, that would mean holding rallies and meeting voters across the nation. But like other parts of American life, the race has been affected by the spread of Covid-19.

Normally, the next big step would be for both parties to officially announce their picks at big meetings called national conventions. But experts say, due to Covid-19 concerns, those meetings might happen online for the first time.
